Top 5 Ways to Take Care of Your Face!

Did you know that there are 5 simple practices you can add to your daily life to keep your skin healthy and glowing? Practice these tips every day for a month and see just how much your skin improves! Be sure to take before and after photo's!

  1. Drink water! Did you know that your body is made up of 65% water? Although us Phoenicians can adapt to living with mild dehydration from living in the desert, it wreaks havoc on our skin! Aim to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of pure water every single day.

  2. Use Protection. Sun protection that is. Yes, most of the damage done to the face comes from photo-aging and cumulative sun exposure. A healthy sunscreen is essential to protect from future exposure. Be sure to pick a mineral based (zinc and/or titanium) based sunscreen made for the face and use it every day. Opt for long sleeves and a hat if you are going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time.

  3. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for making collagen and collagen is essential to having a vibrant face. Eating a diet rich in Vitamin C containing foods is a wonderful way to be sure you have enough of this essential nutrient. My favorite Vitamin C containing foods besides citrus are broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts! Bonus: this helps take care of your joints as well.

  4. Give up sugar and processed foods. Sugar accelerates aging faster than almost anything else. Processed foods take up space in the diet and rob us of the essential nutrients that we need to maintain and repair our skin. Both of these contribute to increased inflammation that damages every cell in our body leading to degeneration. Solution: Eat a whole foods diet low in added sugars.

  5. Manage stress! Chronic stress results in elevated cortisol levels which age skin quickly. Engage in mindfulness, meditation, prayer or any other activity that allows you to ground and center yourself. A few minutes of this every morning can help you start the day with a clear head and better skin. Consider acupuncture if you need additional help. Bonus: better sleep
